Our industry faces challenges as the need for action on climate change, water scarcity and other sustainability issues becomes more urgent. For us, addressing these challenges means having a clear sustainability strategy that guides our actions, drives solid goals and motivates us to achieve them.
Our company’s strategy has three primary pillars. The first is to cultivate a responsive food system, which focuses on ways to improve efficiency, embed sustainability in its products, develop innovative designs and invest in sustainable agriculture and the best ingredients.
The second pillar is illuminating better options, which demonstrates openness and integrity through advancing transparency as well as focusing on health choices to meet consumers’ changing needs.
The third pillar is to empower its employees by inspiring engagement in sustainability and creating positive change in the company, culture and the communities TWOOLIVES lives and works in.
Our purpose. is to minimize waste to landfill and increase reuse and recycling.
REDUCING WATER RISKS
According to the United Nations, approximately one-fifth of the world’s population live in water-scarce areas and another quarter of people face a water shortage. With these numbers, the importance of water as a commodity becomes clear.
We have a strong water use reduction strategy at TWOOLIVES. We use a close cooling circuit using the minimum quantity of water for refrigeration. Instead of consuming huge quantities of municipal water for cleaning purposes, we use electric cleaning machines that wash and collect the wastes in order to get them in our waste tank.
ETHICAL SOURCING
Our company is committed to ensure socially and environmentally responsible practices in food production, farm to fork. Except of the minimum water consumption and zero waste landfill that are already mentioned, we are trying for sustainable agriculture practices.
Our company cooperates with a group of certified organic farmers that we are sure they are socially aligned with the company .We have already trained them in cultivating the olive trees with the minimum impact to the environment and for this reason they use only the necessary quantities of fertilizers for the olive trees’ demands. Moreover, after the crop, farmers were used to prune the trees and the all the pruned branches were burned. Now, they are trained to use a shredder to turn them in small pieces and then this mass is plowed in the soil. By this way, not only the pieces of the trees are returned to the soil but they are turned into organic matter such a valuable substance for the soil.
All over the year we keep supporting our cooperative farmers by informing them with the necessary actions that must be taken in order to have a healthful fruit without insect infestations which can lead to oil deterioration.
As soon as the fruit is ready for crop,they are equipped with special crates that they will not pass any foreign matter to the fruit and the olive oil that will be extracted.
Our team of farmers , are cited in our region territories that means that we care for the local society not only to have work but since they are will paid we hope for a better future for their families and our topic society .
As a result of all the above steps we use, we can say to our customers that when they use our products, there is an ethical standard behind every single drop of olive oil.
Since food safety is accomplished by string requirements, we are entering in a new level where retailers and restaurants are provided assurances from us that ethics are embraced at every step.
PAPER AND GLASS RECYCLING
Each package that it is not suitable for containing our products, it is collected in special crates for recycling through Municipal recycling programs.
